Ijiraq is part of the Inuit moons around Saturn. They are irregular objects that were probably captured by Saturn's orbit. It is possible that all of the five Inuit moons were part of the same celestial body once.
This small vase is the twenty-second vase in the series 274 moons / 274 vases. Ijiraq was made entirely by hand with a groggy red stoneware clay, brushed with porcelain slip and then glazed in the inside with my matte white glaze. The outside is left raw and unglazed.
Ijiraq is not perfectly round.
The vase was coiled by hand and fired up to 1240C.
The vase is functional and measures 11 cm in height and around 8 cm in diameter at its middle (largest) point.
All the glazes are formulated and made by me.
